Nuclear Fusion: It is a process where two lighter atomic nuclei combine to form heavier nuclei. This process goes on the core of the sun where two hydrogen nuclei combine to form helium. Nearly 620 million metric tons of hydrogen get converted into helium per second on the core of the sun.
But how energy is produced? Let us consider two atomic nuclei with a mass value of 6 each. After nuclear fusion, they combine and now their mass is 10, the remaining 2 masses get converted into energy. This is how energy is produced in the process of nuclear fusion.
China's Artificial Sun:
China's Artificial Sun HL-2m EAST Tokamak project (located in Hefei institute of physical science in china) is a joint project with ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactant) which includes countries like the EU, India, Japan, South Korea, Russia, United States of America. This was first started in 2006.
The core temperature of the natural sun is 15million degrees celsius while this artificial sun reaches up to 160million degrees Celsius as its core temperature. The nuclear fusion process is used in this artificial temperature. But in sun due to high pressure and temperature nuclear fusion happens, in artificial sun deuterium is used as fuel. Unlike other non-renewable resources like petrol and coal, deuterium is abundant on the earth. deuterium that we get from 1litre of seawater can produce energy equal to 300litres of gasoline.
Benefits: Due to the nuclear fusion process inside the artificial sun infinite amount of energy is produced within a limited time. An infinite amount of energy is produced. When it comes to using officially, all of the gadgets and automobiles will also be used in electrical energy.
This artificial sun made a record of reaching up to 100 million degree celsius for 101 seconds in December 2018, 160 million degree celsius for 20 seconds.
